Mobile Device Security

I recently received 2 calls about protecting data on a cell phone. One was lost or stolen and the other may have been compromised by malware. After passwords were changed and banks were contacted, the recovery process begins.

The short answer is; If your data is not already protected, then you are not getting it back.

But how do you protect your mobile devices?

1. ALWAYS USE A PASSWORD
All phones, tablets and laptops let you create a PIN, PATTERN or PASSWORD. Choose the one that works best for you and create it!

2. INSTALL A BRICKING/LOCATING APP
Most security software has tracking/locking/bricking features for mobile devices in addition to protecting you from mobile malware. VIPRE [and others] have apps to locate or lock your device, as does Verizon, T-Mobile and the rest.

3. SYNC YOUR IMPORTANT DATA
Your GMAIL or APPLE ID already backs up your email and contacts, so why not use apps that also sync your text and call data, photos, videos and downloads to cloud storage so a lost device isn’t so painful?
